Following Matt Doherty’s Tottenham transfer, Wolves are in desperate need for reinforcements at right-back.

Last month, it was reported that Nuno Espirito Santo’s side had launched a £15m bid for the Arsenal youngster, with suggestions the Gunners would be willing to sell.

However, that offer was rejected, with Arsenal holding out for closer to £20m for the versatile England international.

Maitand-Niles then went on to impress in the Community Shield vs Liverpool at Wembley, scooping the Man of the Match award whilst playing up against Mohamed Salah.

That led to claims that Mikel Arteta would keep the 23-year-old at the Emirates, particularly if Hector Bellerin leaves.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein has suggested that Wolves have made little progress since the opening offer, but there is still a “50/50” chance of the deal being completed.

He said: “There’s so much going on at Arsenal right now.We know that Maitland-Niles was the subject of a £15m bid from Wolves that was rejected and I don’t think that situation has moved on or changed. Some have described it to me as being in the balance, 50-50.”

Meanwhile, Sky Sports have reported that Arsenal are becoming increasingly frustrated with their inability to make sales in the current window.

Arteta is waiting for a number of his players to leave the club, before he can make more signings of his own.

As for Wolves, they look set to start with Adama Traore at right wing-back, with Nuno’s men kicking off their Premier League season vs Sheffield United on Monday.
